Finally, after all the excitement of running around outside and exploring the resources inside, the children will enjoy the quiet, rest time on the carpet and will have many opportunities to listen to and join in with colourful, illustrated stories and daily nursery rhymes. Just like adults! The children will also use these letters to begin to write their own name, and they will begin to learn that their name is just one of the many things that makes them unique.

In this half term we we will begin to introduce the children to our phonics scheme, ‘Letterland’, to help them become familiar with letters and sounds and how to form these letters correctly when writing them. The children’s fine motor skills will flourish and they will be able to explore malleable materials, such as sensory play dough and clay, as well as practising cutting, hammering and threading. The children will begin to develop their pencil control through adult led, focused activities and will be provided with plenty of opportunities for emergent writing in the bright role play areas. The children will become more familiar with the names for the different parts of their body and how it works as well as learning how to look after themselves with a healthy lifestyle and good hygiene. We will taste foods from other cultures as well as explore media and materials during art activities linked to different celebrations. During the Autumn Term, when you may celebrate religious or cultural festivals, the children will have the opportunity to share their experiences with everyone. The children will be spoilt for choice! During this half term the children will help us to learn all about their family and interests through group and individual discussions and will have the opportunities to share and listen to their peers. There will be plenty of time to practise running, climbing and ball skills. The children will have opportunities to select equipment and play imaginatively with their peers. The children will become familiar with the Nursery setting through exploration of both the large inside area and the beautiful and expansive outside garden.
